VFW Guide for Post Service Officers is now available

- 12/27/2020

With the holidays upon us, I am excited to announce that the latest version of the VFW Guide for Post Service Officers is now available. For the first time we are making this guide available for free in an online format on the VFW National Veterans Service web page, www.vfw.org/NVS. You can easily find the Guide in PDF format on the right-hand side, under the "VFW Guide for Post Service Officers" heading. As of today, the Guide includes four sections discussing critical facets of VA benefits:

•        Part 1: Foreword and Benefits Overview

•        Part 2: Service-Connected Disability and Pension

•        Part 3: Health Care

•        Part 4: Memorial Benefits

Over the last year, we have all had to quickly adapt to new ways of doing business, and each of you should be proud of the ways that you and your teams have been able to leverage technology to safely assist the veterans and family members who need our help through the uncertainty of COVID-19. It is with the goal of innovation in mind that your NVS staff worked to make the Guide available in this online format. Moving forward, Post Service Officers will have easy access to the Guide and its resources wherever they may need it.

In addition to this instant access, NVS can now more easily update the Guide whenever VA makes critical program changes, ensuring that the information is up to date, instead of waiting two years to print a new Guide. Finally, this new format also eliminates out-of-pocket costs for you and the Posts in your Departments to purchase the Guide each time a new edition is available.

In 2021, we will be looking at other ways to help you leverage your networks of PSOs and to provide the training that they need to direct veterans to key programs and services. We will also be further consolidating certain sections of past PSO guides, providing more updates on programs like VA education benefits, Home Loan guaranty, and Department of Labor employment programs.

I hope that you find this Guide useful in your efforts to train and build your network of PSOs to serve as diplomats for the VFW's benefits assistance program. If you have any questions about Guide or training for your PSOs, NVS stands ready to assist.

Thank you, again, for your continued dedication to our mission, especially through these unprecedented and challenging times. Please have a safe and joyous holiday season. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
